Two “Heaven”ly Poems From March 1988

April 25, 2011

Some poems come out so short, I just call them “thoughts”:

.

Heaven is a hot summer
day with a bottomless
glass of Coke and ice.
-March 1988
.
.
.
If Heaven
truly is a Paradise,
then my Daddy
is at his Colorado cabin
fishing,
hunting,
and telling anyone who’ll
listen about his wife and kids.

Poem For Jim

March 7, 2011

by Thomas M. Pender

.
.
.
So this is tomorrow
this is the day after
.
.
This is how it feels
when someone steals your laughter
.
.
Another child belongs to the ages
Another angel in the Book of Life’s pages
.
.
He was a good man
He charmed the birds from the trees
.
.
He will remain the charmer
In the best of our memories
.
.
He could always erase the worst of our fears
And still his laughter rings in our ears
.
.
And so, Gentleman Jim
We leave you to Paradise
.
.
Until that day comes
When again you charm the tears from our eyes
.
.
Until then, the comfort lies in continuation
We know your business hasn’t closed
.
.
Just moved to a new location
.
.
